Graphic Design Festival Scotland. Jamhot Review.

Based at Glasgow’s centre for design & architecture, The Lighthouse, Graphic Design Festival Scotland brings Scotland’s design community together for a series of talks, events, workshops and exhibitions. This year, the event was bigger and better and a credit to the GDFS team - Beth, James, Victoria and their army of enthusiastic volunteers.

We were honoured to partner with them to host the opening event of the festival - Top Form, a series of talks from leading design practitioners. Held at the impressive Mitchell Library venue for the first time, we were treated to a range of insights from the likes of Supermundane (complete with keyboard, wig and songs!), Spin, Studio Dumbar and our personal highlight of the day, a heartfelt talk from Pentagram Partner Harry Pearce.

We followed up our hosting of Top Form with two days of mentoring on the Live Project - which brought together over 100 young and emerging designers to work on a brief set by Will Hudson of It’s Nice That. Over the course of the project we were blown away by the talent and enthusiasm from every member of our 12 strong team.

The winner of our group was Anthony Cardle, who created a great initiative called ‘Everyone Shits’ that aimed to encourage young creatives by highlighting the mistakes of more experienced practitioners. Anthony did us proud with his excellent final presentation, bagging 3rd prize overall. With the standard of presentations so consistently high in our group, we were unable to pick a clear winner for 2nd place, and so were delighted to offer a placement day to every member of our group. We’re looking forward to having them in to the studio next year.

The international poster exhibition is currently showing at The Lighthouse until 25th Nov and is well worth a visit.
