Kelvingrove Street. Jamhot Studios Past.
Next up in our studio series is our current home at Kelvingrove Street in Finnieston, the place we've stayed a fair bit longer than any other place, almost eight years in fact.
Craig first stumbled upon this place while out for a walk, spotting an intriguing office to let sign outside. We felt it would be a great opportunity to move back to Finnieston, an area that has always felt like a natural home to Jamhot since it's where we started up.
The space has been excellent, set within an old style traditional tenement building with high ceilings and big front facing windows that let in a lot of light. When we first moved in we took two rooms in the building, with a basement space to use as a dedicated meeting room. But we quickly realised that with great places like Kelvingrove Cafe nearby serving tasty coffee and pastries, that meetings were best held out and about so we got shot of that fairly quickly leaving us with our main studio room.
It's fair to say that we have really enjoyed our time here, being back in Finnieston has been great. The studio is right next to Kelvingrove Park which has been perfect to get out and about when you need some space to think or come up with ideas. Perhaps best of all, we were right next door to what might be Glasgow's best pub - The Big Slope, so we have enjoyed many after work pints here and the occasional chicken burger lunch (it comes highly recommended). We were also fortunate that a Michelin Star restaurant opened up right next door a couple of years back, and we were treated to a couple of tasty meals from the generous head chef & owner, a good neighbour to have!
Over our time here we've got the chance to work on some amazing projects with a great variety of clients, doing the best work that we have ever done, as we scaled back the studio to focus on developing the quality of our output over the quantity - one of the best decisions we have ever made.
At the end of last year we felt that it might be time to be on the move again, as we begin a new chapter and really push forward the work that we do. We were on the lookout for a new space that might better suit this new stage for the studio, and we were very lucky to find that place at the start of this year (more on that soon), which means saying a sad goodbye to Kelvingrove Street as we head off to Glasgow's city centre next month.
But before we do leave, there will hopefully be enough sunny days for us to take advantage of the beer garden next door and also the little pizza waggon at the entrance to the park. And when the time comes for us to leave over the next month, we hope that the studio will bring as much luck and success to the incoming folk as it has to us while we've been here.
