September '26. Jamhot Creative Diary.
A cheery hello from the Hatrack, as we do a wee studio update.
It's been a while, we forgot to do it last month as we were a bit snowed under with matters of design and the like. As the end of September ends, and the start of the end section of the year begins we thought we would pop our heads out of the studio window to say hello and offer up a little chat about what's been going on.
It's been an incredibly busy year, something we are continually grateful for. But perhaps far more important than being busy, we feel that we've been doing some of the best work ever to come out of the Jamhot studio over the course of this year - so we've been busy beavering away seeing if we can up the game of our creative output as the year progresses. Let's see how we go.
We launched a great new film series for CalMac Ferries called Making Waves, were we hear from a range of creative folk on their relationships with Scotland's beautiful west coast islands, and get their thoughts on what it takes to make waves in your own creative career. It's been a brilliant series to work on, one that's taken us to some stunning locations meeting a lot of nice folk. More episodes of the series are in the works, so we'll hopefully have a few more to share as the year progresses.
Three seperate brand projects that we've been working on for the last 6-9 months have all just finalised over the last few weeks. Each of them is very different in nature, but we're really proud of them all - and hope to share some of them soon when we get the chance.
New brand design projects have just kicked off with a hotel group, a drinks brand and Scottish distillery. So we're right in the thick of the discovery and planning phase for each.
The studio has a lot of design work on the go at the moment, with a nice selection of print design which can sometimes feel quite rare these days. We have a couple of brochures, a few annual reports and a new magazine publication in develompent that we're excited about.
There's been a flurry of new business enquiries recently so we've had some proposals flying out the door and a couple of really interesting chats with folk. Let's see what comes from that... it's always a bit hit and miss with these things as we never do any pitch design or creative work up front - it seems to be that practice is rearing its head again within our industry as the landscape becomes more competitive - but we're sticking to the way we do things, and just hope that folk like what we do.
Next week we have two photo & video shoots that will see us out and about for most of the week, as well as a brand workshop on the go. It's always our favourite part of the job, getting of of the studio to making things and meet people. We'll update on those jobs when they are done too.
With the new uni season kicking off we've been working with Edinburgh College of Art and Glasgow Caledonian University on their mentoring programmes, helping out a selection of students - as well as planning some new input with Forth Valley College for later on this year - an area of the studio work that we always really enjoy.
Having recently launched the creative campaign and festival brochure design for Sonica Arts & Music festival, we'll be out and about at some of the festival events this weekend and over the coming weeks. There's a lot on!
Ok... think that's about it for now. Hopefully we'll remember to do a wee update next month although we do know that it's highly unlikely anyone ever bothers to read these. I mean why would you... when you could watch instagram reels of happy dogs and folk falling over. We're off to do just that now.
