Serving 7. The Mick Cooke Lunch Club Society.
We were treated to a special edition of The Mick Cooke Lunch Club Society, as the man who inspired these little get togethers - Mick Cooke himself - joined us in the Hatrack for a spot of lunch. And what's more, Mick brought along a most welcome guest, his friend Malcolm Lindsay.
Malc is a talented composer for TV and Film who we first met at one of our Gab creative events. On top of that, he's one of the nicest fellows you could hope to meet so it was a treat for us to have them both up to Jamhot HQ.
So... who had what. Sprigg salads were well represented, enjoyed by Mick, Craig & Graeme. Malc had a tasty looking sandwich from Greggs and Jamie had... nothing. He was heading home and said he would have lunch there, so he might have went for a bag of chips on his way up the road. We'll never know.
The juice of the day was little bottles of Lucozade orange. This proved to be quite unpopular sadly, with none of the lunch members chosing to enjoy a taste. So they will remain for another day, until someone who likes it pops in for a meeting. Never mind. Win some, lose some.
There were some tasty treats brought by our guests. Mick brought up a delightful fruit tray and, in what we assume was a homage to our very first lunch club, some watermelon. The fruit was enjoyed.
Malc brought us an array of cake based treats from Bavarian Bakehouse in Glasgow. These were some of the finest cakes we have ever eaten, with the sweet selection including carrot cake, cinnamon bun, something else (not sure what it was) and a top notch empire biscuit.
We popped on the new David Byrne album (someone Malc has worked with in the past) which provided a good soundtrack to the afternoon eats.
The lively chat included discussion of music & bands, home stereo & cinema set ups, trading items online, web development, working on complex projects, and Hugh Reed and the Velvet Underpants.
Malc also very kindly brought us a gift of a lovely mug that we will use for tea and perhaps soup also.
We can't leave this report without mentioning that Mick actually brought his very own tea bag to the lunch - producing it out of a little bag that we assume he owns just to transport tea bags from place to place. It was apparently earl grey tea, and Mick & Malc both enjoyed a cup, while the rest had other tea and coffee.
It was a very nice lunch and great to see both of our guests. Rather frustratingly we forgot to take a picture from the lunch, meaning that we don't have a picture of Mick Cooke from serving 1 or 7. Maybe that's the way it's meant to be, keep a little mistery on the go.
Until next time, when we lunch again.
