Some Chat From Gab19. Creative Event.

Last week saw us welcome over 100 folk (and a very well behaved dog) to our latest Gab creative talk event - the 19th one in fact! We had a change of scenery as we visited Glasgow’s brand new Radisson Red hotel, which offered us a fine home for the evening - we were especially taken with their rooftop bar providing amazing views across the city.

This event was pretty special, as we were joined by two Bafta Award winners, and an artist who can genuinely be described as a living legend in their field.

First up, we welcomed musician and composer Mick Cooke and his mate Alan Wilkinson. They took us through their entertaining story about the trials, tribulations and joys of bringing their own musical, Cannibal Women of Mars, to the stage - offering a very honest insight in to the challenges of bringing a brand new stage show to life.

Next up, we were treated to a look behind the scenes of renowned comic book artist Frank Quitely. Frank gave us all a masterclass in understated brilliance, with a rare insight into his process across a range of his well known comic book work. Very inspiring work and some top class chat.

To finish us off in fine style, we were joined by London based designer, creative director and studio founder Kate Dawkins. Working throughout the world, Kate specialises in creating and delivering bespoke content for spectacular live performances, shows and brand events, working across both projection and LED, indoor and outdoor. Her talk gave us a behind the scenes look at how her team creates distinctive visual content for some of the largest global brands, from the giant 360° ‘Audience pixels’ for the London 2012 Olympic Ceremonies, to Adidas, Samsung, Jaguar Land Rover, Elton John’s Las Vegas show and Fast & Furious Live.

It was a great event, and we can’t thank our speakers enough for their time and honest insights. As we get close to our 20th event we continue to be blown away by all the folk who come along to the events. It is always a privilege and a pleasure to meet so many talented and enthusiastic creative folk - which makes the effort of running the events very much worthwhile.

All ticket proceeds from this event went to Scotland’s Homeless Charity - Simon Community Scotland.
