The New Space by Scott King. Brand & Design Reads.
We've been enjoying reading a new release from designer Scott King called The New Space.
Described as Part Manifesto / Part Novel ‘The New Space’ recounts the story of a lone culture worker (‘artist’) who – in one last desperate bid for relevance – and armed only with access to social media – declares ‘information war’ on the entire Culture Industry and its gatekeeper-managers - AKA - ‘Space Control’.
It's such a great book, very nicely designed, that shines a spotlight on our human obsession with social media approval and carving out what we see as our space within that mad world. It made us laugh as we had just been talking about how we should really post more of our work to social media as it's something we've been quite bad at this year, and in general. Maybe, after reading this, we should reconsider.
We also grabbed a copy of The Debrist Manifesto from Scott's site too, described as an 'anti-success handbook' - it's brililant, and a very nice antedote of the Linkedin type success culture that we are all bombarded with. If you like clever humorous writing, with books that are nicely designed then we recommened checking these publications out right here.
